The short answer

Use official learning channels and current provider listings as starting points. “Free to watch” is not the same as a free, eligible, credit-bearing completion.

Start with a reliable route

The SCFHS digital-platforms page links to its learning service and other practitioner tools. Follow that official route rather than an old promotional link forwarded in a group. You can also inspect current activities from providers whose identities you have checked against the official lists.

This guide deliberately does not promise a permanently available free course. Prices, open cohorts and registration windows change. A course that was free during a campaign may no longer be free when you arrive. Check the activity page and final registration terms on the day you book.

Check the real meaning of free

Ask whether the teaching, assessment, completion certificate and any attendance-processing charge are all included. A free webinar may provide education without a credit-bearing certificate. Conversely, a genuinely free activity may be perfectly useful, provided its approval and your eligibility are clear.

Look for membership prerequisites, employer-only access, profession restrictions and limited dates. Do not supply payment-card details merely because a page says “free trial” without first checking renewal and cancellation terms. A subscription trial is a different decision from a one-off free activity.

Record the complete cost, including necessary travel or unpaid time. The cheapest enrolment fee is not always the lowest total cost for someone working rotating shifts.

Keep a fallback plan

Choose free learning for relevance and clear conditions, not just to collect the largest advertised number. Reserve enough time to find an alternative if a cohort fills or your profession is not included. Keep your official balance separate from your list of planned free activities.

For each option, save the source, check date, registration deadline and support contact. If you cannot confirm essential details, treat the item as a learning opportunity rather than a solution to a renewal shortfall. Our directory is a research aid, not a guarantee that any provider currently has a free eligible place.
