The short answer
Start with a practice-related learning question and the activity’s named audience. A medicine-related title does not by itself establish pharmacy eligibility or the right level.
Define a question before searching
A community, hospital, industry or academic pharmacist may need different education. Translate a broad interest into a question: what part of communication, evidence appraisal, quality work or professional practice do I need to understand better? Avoid choosing an advanced label without reading the objectives.
Read the faculty background, intended learner level and teaching outline. A useful course explains what the learner should be able to understand or do afterwards. If the description is only a list of topics and a credit total, ask for more information. These checks assess fit, not the truth of a clinical recommendation.
Keep suitability and approval separate
Confirm the provider and the exact activity, including whether your registered profession is included. Check dates and delivery mode. A general healthcare course may be relevant, but relevance is not a substitute for eligibility. Equally, an eligible activity may offer little new learning if it duplicates material you already know.
Build a small shortlist with two scores of your own: learning relevance and practical completion fit. Add the final payable price and support conditions. Use the official requirement in your record to decide the size of the purchase; do not buy extra hours just because the bundle is marketed to pharmacists.
Capture a safe learning outcome
Keep a short non-identifiable note about the question you studied, the evidence you want to examine and a discussion you should have with the appropriate supervisor or team. Never copy patient prescriptions or identifiable case details into a public learning log or enquiry form.
If a course discusses medicines or policy, verify any proposed application against current authoritative guidance and local procedures. This website helps organise professional learning; it is not a prescribing resource. Check completion and official recording separately so administrative uncertainty does not obscure the learning itself.
Sources & checks
Primary sources used for the facts above. Our checklists and hypothetical examples are planning guidance, not official decisions.
- SCFHS · CPD executive rules (2019) ↗Dated framework; do not use older annual tables in place of current account requirements.
- SCFHS · CPD recognition evidence requirements ↗Evidence varies by activity type. A complete certificate does not itself guarantee recognition.
- National eLearning Center · eLearning quality standards ↗Learning-quality guidance is separate from SCFHS activity approval.
